Opened in 2017 as a center for African American history programs and events (including book clubs, classes, and exhibits), this one-time high school for African American students (1936) was named for education trailblazer Lucretia Kennard. Onsite is a remarkable museum and resource library that chronicles local, state, and national African American life. Later in 2026, the Heritage Center property will feature the United States Colored Troops memorial statue honoring Queen Anne’s County Black Civil War soldiers.
